Yoshi Egg Pinata

I'm making a list of items/supplies that I need to buy for Koby's party, and I wanted to post another thing we're making- a pinata! This should be a fairly easy one to do, since it's only the shape of a large balloon. Koby's so excited to help me make it. :)

Below are instructions I copied from the "Nova" SuperMario link on my sidebar.

-Cover a balloon with white two to three sheets of white tissue as your first layer. Soak the first layer in water alone so it won’t stick to the balloon. Add four to six more layers, brushing each with paper mâché paste. I wouldn’t use a flour-based paste for this one as you’ll want something that dries clear. We usually just use watered-down white glue or mod podge.

- Let this dry, then pop and remove the balloon, and carefully slice part of one side off so you can fill it with candy and prizes. We’re going to use chocolate coins, gold star confetti, and whatever other mario themed items we can find. Use a few more white strips and your paste to put the side back on.

- Cut several large spots out of green tissue paper. Use your paper mache paste to stick them on.

- After it’s thoroughly dry, paint the whole thing with mod-podge once more so it’s reinforced. Mod podge dries clear and strong.

And that’s that! And yes, it will be more fragile than a traditional pinata. Since hitting it with a baseball bat doesn’t relate very well to the Mario theme, I’ll have all the kids throw hacky sack ‘fireballs’ at it till it busts, and they can take home the haky sacks as part of their prize box.

Mini Caramel Apples

I found this recipe on this site when I was looking for fun party snacks. I love this idea! What child can eat a whole caramel apple by themselves?

These are super easy. Just use a melon baller to scoop little balls out of an apple. Add a stick, dip into melted butterscotch chips, and coat with your choice of toppings! I think this would be a fun treat to make for Koby's baptism coming up.

We're planning on inviting his 2nd grade class, so to be on the safe side, we're looking at around 23 hats! I have my work cut out for me. No pun intended. ;)

Yoshi Eggs

My son (turning 8) is obsessed with Yoshi from Mario Bros. Because his birthday is in a month, I have plenty of time to prepare. I'm planning on making these Yoshi Eggs for the game, "Yoshi Egg Smash".

Hey all! I want to point out right now that I am in NO way a professional at ANYTHING. :) I simply love to throw parties, especially for kids.
